The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this lovable family go about their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
