Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage
Flight operations have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a major technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.
Every arrival and departure were suspended because of an IT issue that arose around 08:30.
Several flyers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway during the disruption.
Operations Restart with Continued Disruption
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
Nonetheless, considerable delays are likely to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with many others facing hold-ups.
A spokesperson had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.
"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their booked journeys," the statement added.
Cause of the Chaos
Officials linked the operational halt to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.
Flyers continue to be advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the hub as knock-on effects are worked through.
