Indianapolis Colts Take On Atlanta Falcons in Berlin – Week 10 NFL Action
Guten tag, football enthusiasts. How are you? Alles klar I trust on this excellent morning kickoff to week 10 coming straight outta Germany. The Olympiastadion in Berlin to be exact where at 8.30am CST/9.30am EST and 2.30pm GMT the mighty Colts (7-2) face off against the Atlanta Falcons (three wins and five losses). The fifth game played on German soil and the initial in the nation’s capital.
Pre-match Highlights
As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from the Olympic figure skater on the coin toss. A slight fluff from Sky Sports there as we hear “who won the toss?” from the commentator with an accidentally live microphone.
Well, the Colts have won the toss and have chosen to get the ball first. Daniel Jones and company will be taking the field soon. Will the QB bounce back after a difficult performance in Pittsburgh?
In a similar vein the vocalist performing the US national anthem has some of the largest shoulder pads you are ever likely to see. The fashion picks are impressive today. We are almost underway after a choir performance for the national anthem of Germany. Elegant.
First Quarter Gameplay
Scoreless at 13:30 in the first
And we're off! And we have an exciting start after the Colts running back catches a screen pass, gains 15 yards on the outside to the right side then fumbles … only for his center to recover the fumble with the ball retrieval. Colts are in Falcons territory already.
Still scoreless at 10:51
And the excitement continues as the Colts go for it on 4th down. The risk doesn't work out as Josh Downs fails to catch a quick pass from Jones. Prior to the failed attempt Jessie Bates put a huge hit on tight end Mo Alie-Cox. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they try and snap their three-game losing streak. Following that, Sauce Gardner makes his first appearance!
Touchdown Recap
TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-0 Falcons 8:36, 1st quarter
Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The tight end drops a clanger, he was wide open but the ball just swishes through his hands. That play rather sums up the high draft pick's professional journey to date.
A disappointing start but it only deteriorates for the Atlanta as they cough the ball back to the Colts on the 23-yard line. The Falcons quarterback is sacked and can’t keep hold of the ball.
A nifty 22-yard run from the Colts receiver sets the running back up to roll in for the score on the following play. The placekicker skews the extra point wide. Mistake.
Falcons respond: 6-7 at 6:07
The quarterback recovers from the turnover by leading Atlanta on a long drive for a score of their own. The wide receiver makes some substantial catches to put them in the red zone then the defense opens up for Tyler Allgeier to saunter on to the goal line through the heart of the field for 13 yards. He completes the drive for a one-yard touchdown of his own. The Falcons take the lead.
Additional Tenth Week Games
And for afters, the jumbo package starting at 1 PM EST and 6 PM GMT (with home teams first) is as follows:
(5-4) Carolina Panthers v New Orleans Saints (1-8)
(5-3) Bears v Giants (2-7)
(3-5) Houston Texans v Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3)
(2-7) Miami Dolphins v Buffalo Bills (6-2)
(4-4) Minnesota Vikings v Ravens (3-5)
(1-7) Jets v Cleveland Browns (2-6)
(6-2) Buccaneers v New England Patriots (7-2)
What a feast. My pick for the best game is the Vikings and Ravens playing out the top contest of the day.
