Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the early names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday after the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - both of who have previous links to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town manager - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of hiring a fresh manager.

O'Neil is additionally emerging as a unexpected contender, although he would be a surprising appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham player is currently unemployed meaning the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
