Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their first championship series since 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the final game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 series triumph in the series. They will now face the defending champions, holders of the reigning title, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling."

Springer has now hit twenty-three post-season home runs, ranking him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I want up in that spot except for Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance in the campaign.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.

The Blue Jays secured the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
