Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
The manager lamented recurring failings from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with performances like these.”
He stated, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
